The Bruins played the New York Islanders yesterday and lost 3-1. Tim Thomas had 33 saves and looked good, obviously he is not at fault for the loss. The Bruins just failed to convert good opportunities into goals. Blake Wheeler and Vladimir Sobotka immediately come to mind when it comes to players who failed to convert a breakaway.
The special teams also failed. The Bruins could not get a goal when they had a 5 on 3 for a minute, they did however get a 5 on 4 ppg 30 seconds later when Zdeno Chara blasted a goal past Joey Macdonald (a former Bruin). The Islanders scored a beautiful power play goal in the second period as well. Somehow the Bruins let a lane open up in their own zone and a great pass led to a wide open goal.
The Islanders added two in the third (one of them an empty net goal)
The Bruins play tonight in Washington. WBZ 1030 will have the game, however I'm sure most of you will tune into either the Patriots or Red Sox.
Also, The NHL kicked off its regular season yesterday in Europe. The Rangers beat the Lightning 2-1 (new Ranger Markus Naslund scored) and the Penguins beat the Senators in overtime 4-3 (former Bruin Shean Donovan scored).
